Plitvice Paradise

September 13 and 14, 2011

Once we escaped Zagreb, the 2.5 hour bus ride to Plitvice National Park was beautiful. Our hotel was in an area called Mukinje and was only a few minutes walk from the train stop. It was a cute little house and the owner was so pleasant. There was an adorable dog running around and we think his name was Goober or Gouba - her yelling and accent was throwing us off. She gave us the apartment room and graciously promised not to rent the additional room in our area out. Luckily, this meant that we would not be sharing a bathroom with anyone else. The view from our room was awesome (see below). The scenery was gorgeous and it was very, very quiet. After venturing to the tiny market up the road (note: this town only has one market and one pizzeria) we sat on the patio wondering what we would do out in the countryside. Then an SUV full of guys attempted to pull into the driveway then pulled out, then backed in again, literally making like a 5 point parking job. Low and behold, four Australian guys get out of the vehicle and walk into our hotel. The peace and quiet was officially gone. They introduced themselves and we sat out on the patio drinking beers and talking about our travels. We quickly became friends and went to dinner at the pizzeria down the street. Surprisingly, it was the worst pizza any of us have ever had. We were by far the loudest group in the place because Australians love to talk and love to party. Despite the awful food, we had a great time.

The next morning we all went to the Plitvice National Park, which is nothing short of paradise. Absolutely stunning. The whole park has a boardwalk that runs through it and is full of incredible waterfalls. I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. Please add this park to your bucket lists!
